What is spiritual abuse and what are the emotional signs of being spiritually abused?
Spiritual abuse is using God and Jesus and the Word of God (or the Bible) as a means to control you. Spiritual abusers have the same thing in common with other abusers...trying to gain control. God warns heavily about these types of people in the Bible and makes it clear they will be punished for leading people astray from getting to know Him, His son Jesus and for misusing His Word for their gain. The signs fo being spiritually abused are the same as other abuses, but with God involved. They will try to make you believe God doesn't love you as much as them. God hasn't spoken to you as He has them. They have better revelation of God than you. That if you sin one time (which by the way you will) God doesn't love you. They put a very legalist view of God in place. Listen, God does love you and I dare you to read the Bible and find out for yourself how much love He has for this world. Go to the book of John. God has enough grace and love for even the worst of sinners (including the abusers when they repent and turn away). Tell God how all this has made you feel and tell Him you have doubts because of what happened to you...trust me HE will listen and if you will read His Word He will speak to you and give you your answers. I know because after my abuse (which included emotional, spiritual and finally physical) I thought God had it out for me...but I told HIM if you are all that you say to be show me and prove yourself to me. In one years time He has done many things to get me through that hell of emotions I had from the abuse. God Bless Answer There is no agreed definition of what constitutes spiritual abuse. It is a colloquial, not a professional term and is not used in scholarly literature. Verbal and emotional abuse that denigrate your beliefs (religious or other) and your uniqueness as a human being are forms of spiritual abuse, I guess.
